The BOCHK Challenge is one of Hong Kong’s flagship fintech competitions, organised by Bank of China (Hong Kong) with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Alibaba Cloud, ASTRI, Amazon Web Services, BytePlus, Cyberport, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, KPMG China, and Microsoft Hong Kong as co-organisers. Its 10th edition drew a record 1,300+ participants and close to 300 proposals; 12 teams reached the finale (source: organiser announcement via IT PRO Magazine, 1 Sep 2026).

Beyond the trophies, the entry itself is the story. It addresses a problem your team likely lives with: cross-border payment screening. Payments across the Greater Bay Area and Belt and Road corridors arrive as mixed Chinese and English messages, full of company short names and multilingual content. Screening slows down, and risk slips through.

Our solution reads those payment messages automatically, resolves abbreviations and multilingual entities, flags risky transactions, and assigns a risk level with the reasoning behind it. Settlement moves faster, and your analysts spend their time on judgment, not translation. The AI does the legwork; the human makes the call.

221b is a Hong Kong-based RegTech company building an agentic AI platform for anti-money-laundering and financial-crime compliance. The name comes from 221b Baker Street, the address of Sherlock Holmes, because we treat compliance work as investigation: gather the evidence, connect the entities, follow the money, and present the case clearly enough that a human expert decides with confidence. We build for compliance analysts, MLROs, and financial-crime teams at banks and financial institutions, and we are incubated at Cyberport, Hong Kong’s digital technology hub.

None of this happened alone. Thank you to Bank of China (Hong Kong) for building this stage, and to our mentor Hua Xiang, whose advice shaped our pitch from start to finish. Thank you to Rocky Cheng and Victor Yim of Cyberport, whose support of our incubation journey made this possible. And thank you to the 221b team, G-mond Lau, Tommy Lau, and Terry Ng, who took 221b from the first application to the finale stage.
